Mikhail Makhotin: Oceanoggraphic research in Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute

Mikhail Makhotin, head of the Laboratory of the Hydrological Regime of the Arctic Ocean at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), highlighted the main directions of oceanographic research conducted by the institute in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Mikhail focused on the observation infrastructure, which includes stationary points on the Svalbard and Northern Zemlya archipelagos, the hydrometeorological observatory in Tiksi, and the ice platform “North Pole.” Special attention was given to the historical context and modern capabilities of the platform, which is equipped with the necessary laboratories and facilitates year-round research in the high-latitude Arctic.
