Vasilisa Koshkina presented approaches to automatic identification, tracking, and classification of mesoscale atmospheric vortices in numerical-model data, discussing trajectory validation and next steps toward climatological analysis of vortex systems.

Kristina Prokopyeva presented a satellite-based study of how spring runoff from the Lena River interacts with landfast ice in the estuarine nearshore zone. The seminar discussed the sequence of ice-breakup phases, the role of the river plume, trends over 2000-2025, and the possibility of forecasting landfast-ice breakup using satellite and hydrological data.

Matvey Novikov presented a rehearsal of his PhD pre-defense talk on modeling how biochemical processes influence redox conditions in the Black Sea. The seminar discussed the redox layer, oxygen balance, the role of manganese, hydrochemical changes over recent decades, and bottom hypoxia formation in coastal areas.

Dmitriy Sein discussed regionally coupled ocean-atmosphere modelling, the choice of regional-model configurations, and the role of the ocean component in climate and weather simulations. The seminar addressed model-domain setup, decadal predictions, ocean effects on hurricanes, and examples of high-resolution ocean simulations.

The seminar examined recent optimization algorithms for deep learning, highlighting their impact on training stability and model generalization. Special emphasis was placed on methods effective under limited data and computational resources.

The 2025 Floating University expedition to the Chukchi Sea provided new insights into the pathways and transformations of Pacific and Siberian waters, clarifying the role of river plumes in Arctic circulation. The data challenge traditional views on water-mass exchange between the East Siberian and Chukchi seas.

The seminar served as a rehearsal for Vadim Rezvov’s PhD defense at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, focusing on neural network methods for high-resolution atmospheric modeling in the Arctic.

Hydrophysical Processes Induced by Tides in the Waters of the Pacific Ocean Adjacent to the Kamchatka Peninsula and the Northern Kuril Islands, and Their Influence on the Early Stages of Pollock Development

This talk focuses on how weather and climate conditions affect people in urban environments. The spotlight is on the urban heat-island phenomenon and its repercussions—from microclimate changes to public-health impacts. The presentation spans both historical developments and modern research methods, including numerical modelling, field measurements in Arctic cities, and bioclimatic indices. It emphasizes the need for an integrated approach to assessing thermal comfort and to planning urban spaces, especially under a changing climate.

In the context of global climate change and anthropogenic pressure, it is essential to identify and protect unique biological resources, such as invertebrate endemics of Lake Baikal, which serve as indicators of ecosystem health. Population studies are crucial for the effective management of natural resources and for planning environmental protection efforts. This work is devoted to the development of new methods for analyzing genetic polymorphism data from natural populations of Baikal’s invertebrate endemics, aimed at providing a more detailed characterization of both ongoing and historical population processes. The primary goal is to develop and validate deep learning models that can uncover scenarios leading to observed patterns of genetic diversity. The study introduces the following models: * a model for identifying population structures that change their reproductive strategies depending on environmental conditions; * a model for detecting climate change based on polymorphism data; * a model for clustering genetic sequences according to the organisms’ habitat. These models are expected to enhance the effectiveness of population genetic research in the future.
